Suspected Yahoo boy killed FUNAAB prof in hit-and-run crash

Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a respected scholar in Biochemical Toxicology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The accident occurred on Sunday, February 16, 2025, on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin Road as Professor Ademuyiwa was crossing the street after alighting from a cab.

Local authorities have indicated that the driver involved is suspected to be an internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo boy.”

A senior police officer from the Ogun State Police Command disclosed this information, emphasizing the reckless nature of the driving that led to the professor’s untimely death.

The tragic event has prompted residents of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community to renew their calls for the installation of speed breakers and other safety measures on Kemta-Somorin Road.

Dr. Ayo Ajasa, Chairman of the Community Development Association, expressed deep concern over the lack of response to their previous appeals, stating that the loss of Professor Ademuyiwa could have been prevented with appropriate government intervention.
