MTN Bows To Pressure, Reverses 200% Data Price Hike

MTN Adjusts Data Subscription Prices – See the Updated Bundles

MTN Nigeria has rolled back its recent 200% price increase on its 15GB data bundle, aligning with the Federal Government’s approved rates through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The abrupt hike had sparked frustration among subscribers, prompting the telecom giant to issue an apology.

In a statement shared on its verified X handle, MTN acknowledged the backlash:

To our 15G digital bundle lovers, You dey vex (you are angry). We know.

We know how upsetting it might have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.

We could share several reasons, and provide explanations, but ‘omo, all-that one na story’.

We don cast. We get it and admit it. Let’s just say na mistake.

In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please, forgive and forget. You matter die and we will never stop showing you how much. Let’s continue our relationship.

Thank you for your understanding.”

An investigation by Techeconomy revealed that the 15GB bundle was previously subsidized, making it more affordable for users.

The removal of this subsidy led to the steep increase, but MTN has now retracted the hike, restoring the previous pricing structure.
