The Labour Party (LP) has officially named Peter Obi as its flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming its confidence in his leadership.
In a statement released on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, confirmed the decision, highlighting Obi’s ability to challenge and potentially unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
As part of its electoral strategy, the party also threw its weight behind Governor Alex Otti’s second-term bid in Abia State and endorsed Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour to represent the party in the Lagos State governorship race.
Arabambi emphasized the party’s cohesion under Obi’s leadership, stressing that Nigerian youths and the electorate would rally behind their candidate.
He stated, “Our major focus is getting the APC out of office only through the ballot box if Nigerians so desire, and not through illegitimate means.”
Reiterating the party’s stance, he affirmed that “Peter Obi would once again represent the LP in the 2027 presidential race,” while expressing the party’s unwavering support for Governor Otti and Rhodes-Vivour in their respective political contests.
“We are united in our resolve to bring about a better Nigeria under the leadership of Peter Obi,” he added.
Obi, who previously contested in the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, finished in third place behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
