Defection: APC Is the Majority Party in Delta, Okowa, Oborevwori Are Not Welcome - Omo-Agege

The former Deputy Senate President and APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Delta State election, Ovie Omo-Agege, has firmly rejected the idea of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and ex-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that they are unwelcome in the party.

At a Monday meeting with APC leaders, elders, and stakeholders from Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas, Omo-Agege emphasized that the APC remains the dominant political force in Delta State and continues to grow in influence.

Addressing claims from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) suggesting that the APC had lost its footing in the state, Omo-Agege pointed to the APC’s recent victories, which include securing two senatorial seats, two House of Representatives seats, and an ongoing influx of defections from PDP members.

After the 2023 elections, the PDP spread false propaganda, claiming that APC no longer exists in Delta. Yet, this is a state where APC won two senatorial seats and two House of Reps seats.

Today, the only PDP senator is set to join APC, and you are still saying we are not on the ground? Are we not the majority party?” the former Deputy Senate President queried.

He also highlighted the success of APC in the Delta Central Senatorial District, the home turf of both Omo-Agege and Oborevwori. Here, APC claimed the senatorial seat, two of the three House of Representatives seats, while the Labour Party took one. PDP failed to secure any seats.

Out of nine House of Assembly seats in Delta Central, APC secured five, while PDP got four. So, which party is truly more popular?” Omo-Agege asked.

Despite extending a welcome to other PDP leaders, Omo-Agege made it clear that Governor Oborevwori and former Governor Okowa would not be accepted into the APC fold.

“We welcome everyone except Oborevwori and Okowa. They should remain in PDP and rebuild their party.

We have built this party from scratch, and we will not allow people with questionable records to destroy what we have worked hard for,” he stated firmly.

Omo-Agege also reassured APC members that any internal challenges within the party would be resolved ahead of the 2027 general elections, predicting that the PDP’s national crisis would render the opposition irrelevant in the coming election cycle.
